Human Resource Generalist

Salary Range: $23.62-$28.59/ hour

Position Overview:

The Human Resource Generalist I is responsible for general human resource functions including recruiting, employee relations, compliance issues, benefits oversight and affirmative action compliance. Work is performed under general supervision


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represents the company with a positive attitude
  • Assists with recruiting and facilitating the hiring of top-caliber job applicants for open positions; collaborating with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings
  • Maintains accurate recruiting records for compliance purposes; assists in preparing reports related to EEO and AAP compliance, or other HR functions
  • Conducts or acquires pre-employment assessments, background checks, drug tests, and employee eligibility verifications; handles all Employment Authorization documentation and notifications
  • Facilitates and assists with the completion of new hire onboarding paperwork and training that drives retention and employee engagement from day one
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff
  • Attends, participates in and documents employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, as needed
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records
  • Provides basic filing and recordkeeping to maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations

Competencies:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
    • Basic knowledge and understanding of human resource principles, concepts, and procedures, including federal, state, and local employment laws
    • Able to speak, read, and write the English language
    • Good verbal and written communication skills, including active listening skills, with potential candidates, employees, and others across various organizational functions
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and employees
    • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality
    • Good organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite - Excel, Word, Power Point
    • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's human resource information system (HRIS), talent management system, and other similar computer applications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • At least five years managing all phases of the recruitment and hiring process

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Three or more years of human resource recruiting experience in a manufacturing company

  • Dependable and independent worker
  • Humble and service-oriented; able to work with the team to achieve stated goals and objectives and with supervisors/managers to resolve employee issues
  • Prior working experience in human resources dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Advanced understanding of principles and processes of customer service
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment
  • Must have an acceptable criminal history background check
  • Must pass a drug test
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk using a computer and phone
  • Hearing and vision must be within normal range with or without correction
  • May occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-time
  • Hours are generally 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday
  • Some early or late hours may be required to accommodate 2nd and 3rd shifts
  • May require occasional long days and weekend work to meet deadlines

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, team environment
  • Work is in an office environment; may on occasion be required to go into the climate-controlled plant facility where you may be exposed to moderate levels of constant or intermittent noise and where safety glasses are required

  • Some local or overnight travel may be required for business meetings, training, or conferences
